FOSTERING AND IMPROVING SMALL-GROUP, STUDENT-TO-STUDENT

DISCOURSE

ABOUT The PD

Fostering student-to-student discourse in small groups can be challenging. Simply putting students in groups is not enough to improve mathematical thinking; the quality of the student-to-student interaction affects the development of student understanding. Teachers need to support students in learning how to communicate effectively, namely share ideas, listen to others, and critically evaluate the work of others.

This professional development workshop will guide middle school and high school teachers in learning how to interact with their students while they are working collaboratively to promote and improve student-to-student communication.
